Positive Assets in the Schools
While we are working to increase assets within our community, we know that there are a lot of important efforts currently under way. Here’s just a partial list of activities with the Brookfield schools that are an important part of asset building.
- French Honor Society: This is a national organization that recognizes a student’s success in speaking, writing, reading, and comprehending the French language and culture.
- Spanish Honor Society: This national organization recognizes high school students with high achievements in the Spanish Language and continues to promote an interest in Hispanic studies.
- Student Council: It is the job of student council to enhance the school’s environment by helping out their fellow classmates and to also represent the student body.
- National Honor Society: This is a service based organization that was founded on the idea that students should use their talents, skills, and knowledge for the betterment of society. This organization honors students who demonstrate excellence in areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service in the school or in the community.
- HOSA: The Health Occupations Students of America organization gathers students interested in entering the health field and they compete in many conferences against other schools.
- Robotics: Inspiring students to be science and technology leaders, the robotics organization engages members in programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills.
- Amnesty International: This club promotes human rights and right political injustices. Collectively they raise money to help fund social causes through fundraisers.
- Math League: This club gathers students interested in mathematics and they compete in many math competitions.
- Key Club: This club performs various community service activities for the better of Brookfield and society at large.
- Leo’s Club: This is a community service club that started in 2011 under the guidance of the Brookfield Lions Club. The Leos Lions are committed to helping people in need by raising money through fundraisers for a wide variety of charities.
- Peer Counseling: Peer counselors are trained in listening techniques and responses in order for students to feel safe talking to them and sharing concerns with them confidentially.
- Students of Service: SOS is a student directed community service club. Members are actively involved in volunteering within the school and community.
- Anime Club: This club spends its time exploring Japanese culture in forms such as anime, music and video games.
- Art Club: This club gives BHS students interested in the fine arts to meet after school for open studio time. Students are provided with the time, space and materials needed to further improve their artistic abilities.
- Modern Music Masters: This club is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel in music and leadership.
- Paw Print: Journalism is a semester long course designed to enable students to develop their speaking, listening, and marketing skills through the production of the school newspaper, Paw Print.
- Students Against Drinking and Driving (SADD): This club helps stop students from drinking and driving by having students work together to understand the importance of making responsible choices while under the influence, and to inform their fellow students of their concerns.
- Brown Bag Book Club: Each month this club meets during students’ lunch periods to discuss the book they have chosen to read for the month.
- Milk and Cookies: This club’s purpose is to provide a relaxing environment for students to enjoy refreshments while playing games or sharing community service/fundraising opportunities.
- Literary Magazine: This club’s mission is to showcase the collaboration of artists and writers who are creative, open-minded, imaginative, inspiring, and diverse.
- Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA): This club prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
- Drama Club: This club provides an opportunity for students to become involved in all different aspects of theatre.
- Big Brother Big Sister: The purpose of this club is to provide positive role models for students at Brookfield’s younger community schools.
- Green Team: This club guides students as they focus on recycling programs at home and at school.
