Board of Selectmen approve 988 sign project

Brookfield Cares received approval from the Brookfield Board of Selectmen on Monday, February 5 to provide 16 or more signs to the Town to increase awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Signs have been ordered to be posted around the Town of Brookfield that say “Hope Has a Number. 988”

These metal and reflective signs will be funded by Brookfield Cares and provided to the Town at no cost.

Since its July 2022 launch, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline has received and routed more than 7.6 million calls, texts, and chats. The number directs people in crisis to potentially life-saving help from trained counselors.

Brookfield Cares, a local prevention council committed to promoting social health and emotional well-being in our community, is suggesting placement in locations known to law enforcement and first responders to be places where people in crisis have been drawn including public boat launches, parks, and school parking lots.

With the signage and public awareness campaign, Brookfield Cares aims to bring widespread attention to this new 988 phone number and QPC code-linked website that can get people in crisis to the kind of immediate help they need.
