Community Reports

In order to gain a better understanding of student attitudes and actions relating to at-risk behaviors, Brookfield CARES works closely with the Brookfield Public Schools to survey students in grades ranging from 6 to 12 every few years. We’ve surveyed students 6 times since 2009. Our 2022 effort — the most recent — surveyed students in grades 7—12.

The survey — developed by Search Institute and taken by millions of students nationwide — is a secure process that protects student anonmity while providing valuable data in a wide range of areas including alcohol and drug use, depression and suicide, gambling, vaping, safety (for the first time), and more.

We make results of the Survey available in a variety of ways. Our first effort was to make presentations to the Board of Education and the Board of Selectmen.

In October of 2023 Brookfield CARES held an interactive Community Conversation with members of the community on how we can work collaboratively to build assets in our town’s  youth.

The most important part of the forum was the moderated breakout sessions where community members proposed ideas on how we could work collaboratively as a whole to increase assets within our youth.

The four areas we focused on were: Businesses – Neighbors – Families – Schools.
